Lifesaving Products to Survive the Newborn Stage
While pregnant with our little girl, everything was new and exciting. We found out our little one’s gender and I was practically picking nursery colors on the way home. Along with decorating the nursery, I couldn’t wait to set up my baby registry!
That is, until the time to create the registry came. I was completely overwhelmed with the sea of baby products, each claiming to be better than the rest! How could a new mom possibly navigate the chaos to find just those products that would truly make life with a newborn easier?
Thankfully, I had a tribe of awesome mamas that helped me narrow down my registry to those essential for a tired mama amid the newborn stage. Their insight combined with my acquired experience, I feel a bit like an expert. ?
I wanted to save you the frustration I felt when creating my registry, so I’ve compiled a wonderful list of must have products to include on your baby registry!
We used and loved every item included in this list. These products truly were lifesavers for us!
To make it even easier, these products are all available on Amazon. Amazon is one of my favorite places to set up a baby registry- the perks are fantastic. Completing a registry on Amazon is so quick and easy, plus it’s even more fun to complete it in pajamas in the comfort of your own home! The easy 90-day return policy offered on registry purchases is super convenient – comes in handy!
Plus, Amazon offer up to a 15% discount when you purchase any items from your registry! I know from personal experience; the 15% discount was so helpful when picking up the final items before our little one arrived. Sign up for your own registry or learn more about the benefits of an Amazon registry here.

Aden & Anais Swaddle Blankets
Babies love to be swaddled. These just happen to be some of the softest swaddle blankets out there. They are large enough to swaddle a baby nice and snug and they get softer with every wash. We loved these and literally used them for everything!
Baby Wrap/Carrier

Babywearing is the best. It offers so many wonderful benefits for both mama and baby. Plus, it’s convenient and there is something so wonderful about a having a sweet little baby snuggled into your chest. Our little one loved being snuggled with mama in the baby wrap.
Boppy Lounger
Honestly, when I received this product as a gift I was not sure how much use it would get. Proof that I had no idea what to expect once that little baby arrived. We literally used this lounger so much for the first several months – I don’t know how I would have done anything (eat, shower – you get the idea…) without the boppy lounger.
Bath Sponge
After hearing so many other moms complain about baby baths, specifically storing them, I explored other options. I heard so many wonderful things about these little bath sponges, and they were so inexpensive, I had to give them a try. We loved it! It served our needs beautifully and will be our go to for any future babies.
Bath Cozy
Along with the bath sponge, we used a bath cozy to keep our peanut warm during a bath. It stays warm way longer than a washcloth and rests on the baby like a bib. Again, another product we loved and will absolutely use again!
Bath Knee Pad
We debated getting this, as it seemed unnecessary, but we are so glad we did! It was an absolute lifesaver. From day one we bathed our little one in the tub, so the kneeling on the bathroom floor would have killed our knees without this lovely little pad. Get one, trust me, you’ll be so glad you did!
Diapers
This is a no brainer. ? Early on, our favorite was Pampers Swaddlers. They fit our little one the best and kept her nice and dry. As she got a bit older, she developed some glorious chunky-monkey legs (seriously, the best!). We’ve found Huggies diapers fit better around her legs, without digging into her skin.
Wipes
Yet another obvious one, but worth mentioning. In all the planning these simple items are easily overlooked. We tried countless brands & varieties, our favorite are Amazon Elements and Sam’s Club Members Mark wipes. Huggies Natural Care wipes are great too!
Bum Brush
This seems like the silliest, most unnecessary product – until you use it. This product is so fantastic for applying diaper cream without getting it all over your hands! (Diaper cream under your nails is the worst…). I can’t say enough good things about this. Get it. It will change your life.

Halo SleepSack Swaddle

I was an overly paranoid new mama and didn’t trust my ability to wrap a snug swaddle while operating in a sleepless haze. This sleepsack functions exactly like a swaddle and secures so easily with velcro. There are lots of versions of these products on the market, we loved this one because when our little one didn’t want to be swaddled, we were able to leave her arms out and still secure the velcro like a swaddle. Plus, once she outgrew the swaddle all together, we still used a simple Halo Sleepsack without the velcro to keep her warm without added blankets in the crib!
Baby Monitor
We went back and forth on what type of monitor to get. Did we really need the video feature or would just sound be sufficient? We went with a video monitor and are so glad we did. Having the ability to see our little one sleeping provided so much peace of mind (and drastically cut down the number of “let me just make sure she’s breathing” trips to her crib ? ).
Boppy Nursing Pillow

Another lifesaver, especially for breastfeeding mamas. I literally used this pillow almost every nursing session from the day our peanut was born until she weaned at 16 months old. I loved it and it was a comfortable place for her to nurse. It was such a lifesaver.
Plus, our girl HATED tummy time with a passion, so we ended up using this pillow to help with tummy time! So wonderful!
Gliding Swing

Another lifesaver. Literally. (Are you seeing a trend here 🙂 ). For the first few months, our little one loved the swing. It was wonderful way to keep baby happy and still get stuff down around the house! It was a sad day in our house when our peanut outgrew the swing. Plus, this swing plugs in, which means no batteries to worry about. So convenient!
Onesies
Our first baby was born at the beginning of summer. She literally wore just onesies every day for months. Easy. Comfortable. Super inexpensive so not the end of the world if they get stained.
Pajamas
Pajamas also known as jimmy jams in our house. Is there anything cuter than a baby in footie pajamas. ? They’re comfortable and keep baby warm, which is particularly important when they’re so little and have a hard time regulating their body temperature. And speaking from experience, go with zippers not snaps. Snaps are such a pain to deal with during those middle of the night diaper changes!
Baby Mittens
Not only are baby mittens adorable, they are so functional. Little baby nails are sharp (and scary to cut for the first time!), these mittens help ease fears of scratches from baby’s nails.
Stroller

I was a runner before I got pregnant with my first, so there was no doubt in my mind I wanted a quality jogging stroller. We went with the Bob Revolution and couldn’t be happier with it. With the car seat attachment, I used it for walks within the first few weeks of bringing baby home. And now that Elli is older, she loves going running in the stroller! Bob strollers are great for runners, but if you’re not a runner (or not interested in a jogging stroller), the Chicco Bravo and Britax B-Agile are also great options!
Boon Drying Rack
Regardless of if you are nursing or formula feeding, you will have baby products that need washed. This drying rack is wonderful. It holds everything imaginable and looks cute sitting on the counter!
Car Seat

This is a no brainer. You practically can’t even leave the hospital without a car seat. We went with the Chicco Keyfit Zip and absolutely loved it. The zip-off liner was wonderful for cleaning and it was so easy to install!
But above all, the Chicco Keyfit’s best feature is the fantastic safety ratings! Nothing makes you feel better leaving the hospital with your baby secured in one of the safest car seats on the market (especially if you’re like us and have no idea what you’re doing and wonder if the hospital should actually be letting you leave with this new little person to care for. ? ).
Humidifier
I didn’t realize how crucial this little humidifier would be until that first winter with propane heat. Propane heat dries everything out, including the poor little nasal passages of a sweet baby. We used this humidifier every night and it worked great! Plus, this was a godsend the first time our baby got a cold!
Activity Gym

We used our activity gym constantly for tummy time and playing with toys on her back. Our girl loved this playmat, especially once she learned to roll over. It allowed her the freedom to roll around on the mat to play with toys of her choice.
Diaper Bag
Such an important part of being a new mom – finding the right bag to carry half the house that you will take everywhere you go (ask me how I know… ?). We received several diaper bags, my favorite was this backpack diaper bag. Not only is it beautiful, it is so incredibly functional. I never appreciated the value of a bookbag until I had a little one.
NoseFrida Nasal Aspirator
When I first heard about this nasal aspirator, I was disgusted. No way was I ever going to suck snot from anyone’s nose, even my sweet baby’s. And then she got a cold. And was so congested she could barely breathe. I pulled NoseFrida out so fast, and it worked! Really well, actually! As much as I appreciate the nasal aspirators sent home from the hospital, they don’t even come close to NoseFrida. Trust me on this one.
Thermometer
Without a doubt, having a few quality thermometers is critical with a new baby. A rectal thermometer is the preferred choice for newborns, but sometimes it just isn’t possible to take a temperature this way. If you’re anything like me, you’ll appreciate having a temporal thermometer when you check the temperature of a sleeping baby for the 15th time that night.
Car Mirror
This car mirror provided such piece of mind to us when riding in the car. Having the ability to view your rear facing baby while driving in the car is so comforting. Plus, the lights and music engage baby and the remote makes it easy to control the mirror from the front seat.
